Annie Laurie Trans-Atlantic crossing

John MacDougall, Annie Laurie, #26

Hello to all....

My Trans-Atlantic sail on my Annie Laurie (C470, #26) was wonderful! and I have much to share in the future......(It was just myself, as captain.....and my sister, and a friend of ours.......just 3 of us on board for the whole voyage....)

I left June 26th, arrived in Horta, Azores 20 days later on July 16th.......about 3100 miles sailed.....then left 4 days later, and arrived in Gibraltar in 7 days, about 1150 more miles sailed......

Total time at sea was approx. 27 days, and distance sailed approx. 4250 miles, with a overall average of approx. 6.5kts......

I spent 10 days in Gibraltar, flying home just a couple of days ago......and gosh are my arms tired!!!

I'm still trying to figure out how to compile and write everything that I'd think would be of interest / use to you all......

I had NO major failures (details of my "autopilot failure" to come later), and can say with NO hesitation that our 470s are more than "offshore boats", they're truly "high-seas" boats. Gerry Douglas and Frank Butler designed and built great boats for all of us!!!!! (although, nothing is perfect, LOL)

That's all for now......more to follow....

You can all see my entire track (and some misc. comments) on the shiptrak website www.shiptrak.org. Click this link, and after it loads up, enter my ham callsign, KA4WJA, into the callsign box and then click "VIEW"......

There are a few errors in the "comments", and a BIG error of my reported latitude on 24 July 2007.....mostly due to bad HF radio propagation, but you can all get a good idea of where I needed to sail to avoid excessively heavy weather (the stable Bermuda High, didn't build-in, until after I'd made landfall in Horta, Azores, so we had numerous Lows traveling along many cold fronts for the first 2 weeks.....and that's in JULY!!!), and still have somewhat good wind.....
